If you’ve been following my digital trail for a while, you know my routine. I’m the retired guy sitting in the corner of a Rio café, likely squinting at a screen, nursing a strong coffee, and dodging the crumbs of a pão de queijo.
I spend a lot of time here. Probably too much between dissecting historical biographies, navigating the beautiful chaos of life in Brazil, and documenting my “Daily Gripes” about the general absurdity of the modern world, I’ve realized something: I spend more time reading your work than I do writing my own. I’m a firm believer that the best parts of the internet aren’t found behind a paywall. That’s why everything I produce from my deep-dive book reviews to my sarcastic musings on retirement is free. It always has been, and it always will be.
The Capybara Standard

For me, this isn’t just a broadcast; it’s a conversation. I take pride in reading your posts and engaging in the comments. And, of course, there is the weekly Capybara Award. It’s my way of calling out the best of the best in the blogging world, the writers who keep things interesting, engaging, and worth the bandwidth.
The “Digital Tip Jar”
To keep the gears turning (and the caffeine flowing), I’ve officially set up a way for you to contribute to the craft if you feel so inclined.
Here is the deal:
- Zero Obligation: If you just want to read, read on. I’m happy to have you here.
- No Paywalls: You’ll never hit a “subscribe to read more” pop-up. I find those as annoying as automated phone menus.
- The Goal: Think of it as “helping the old and retired.” Whether it’s $0 or the price of a snack, every bit goes toward supporting my only two remaining vices: coffee and pão de queijo.
I’ll keep being funny, sarcastic, and hopefully a little entertaining. You keep being the best audience a retired finance guy could ask for.
