Poll Results From Last Week

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Here are the results. The sample size was small, only a handful of responses, and that in itself is telling. I didn’t find that surprising.

There was also one question I suspected would go unanswered. That wasn’t surprising either. It was this: Do you ever start reading a post and leave due to a lack of interest?

No responses.

That silence feels less like an absence of data and more like an answer in itself. It points to something quieter, possibly a psychological reluctance to admit disengagement, or simply a desire to avoid anything that feels even mildly confrontational.

Even with a small sample, the responses confirmed some things I suspected and challenged others.

Do you ever rate posts that have a rating system?

The trend leaned toward sometimes and yes, with a single no. Engagement exists, but it’s selective and inconsistent.

Do you like posts but rarely (or never) comment?

A strong Yes. This clearly aligns with the data: likes significantly outweigh comments. Passive engagement dominates.

Do you like and comment?

Mostly both, with one no. On the surface, this seems to contradict the previous answer, but the overall ratio still tells the real story. People may believe they engage fully, but behavior suggests otherwise.

Do you use a reader function and just click “like” without reading the full post?

This was encouraging and unexpected. The trend leaned No. Given WordPress’s structural flaw (My Opinion) that allows quick, low-effort likes, I assumed this would be higher. It wasn’t.

Do you ever read a full post and offer no input (no like, rating, or comment)?

A strong Yes. This was one of the more surprising results. There is enough interest to read fully, but no visible response.

One explanation, offered directly in a comment, stands out as non-confrontational. I think since there is no “dislike,” which is more passive, this could be explained in that way. Without a neutral or negative option, silence may be the default. Not indifference, just avoidance. And then back to the question that received no answers:

Do you ever start reading a post and leave due to a lack of interest?

No responses, but it aligns perfectly with everything else. If engagement tends to avoid negativity or confrontation, then admitting disengagement publicly may simply fall outside what people are willing to say.

What emerges from all of this is not just a pattern of behavior, but a pattern of restraint. People are reading. People are paying attention. But visible interaction, especially anything that could be perceived as negative, is filtered, softened, or withheld entirely. In other words, the loudest signal in this poll might not be what was said but what wasn’t.

I have started to experiment with Google Analytics and do a bit deeper dive into things like traffic, time spent on posts, where the traffic comes from, and when. I will let you know what I find.

  1. I love all of your work on this. You know I read all of your posts. I try to comment on everything. If I missed the part about starting a post and not finishing – it’s just my brain glazing over. Truth be told I sometimes get pulled away from reading and may not return for a while.

Thank you for all you do for us. I always walk away deep in thought and smiling!

    1. Thanks I appreciate the reply. I’m glad you liked it. Today I set out the analysis report based on my data. Pretty interesting.
