It’s not just one book but a collection of books by one author. I have full reviews of them coming later, but if you want a great storyteller, read Barbara Kingsolver. I’ve read four of her books so far, and every one of them was hard to put down. That surprised me, because I honestly stumbled onto her work by accident.
I started with Demon Copperhead, and it was fantastic. Her writing feels less like a novelist talking to you and more like an everyday person telling stories from life in Appalachia. In this book, she tackles poverty, drug abuse, isolation, and what it feels like to grow up as an outsider while trying to survive it all.
Few authors make me want to reread their books. She does. Every one I’ve read has been excellent.
