Quote Of The Day – Pele

Pele

“The more difficult the victory, the greater the happiness in winning.”

I picked this quote for a couple of reasons. Pele was one of those iconic athletes known worldwide. I knew of him as a kid growing up in the US, and we had almost no knowledge of soccer, “Futebol.”

When I met my wife, who is Brazilian, I came to learn and love the sport, and I picked up his autobiography, which was quite good.

It may seem sports-driven, but it is life-driven. How many times have we had tasks that were hard, frustrating, and we wished we did not have to do them, or wanted them over? However, when you completed it, think of that feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction. Sure, it applies to life in sports, training, and the ultimate pinnacle of a championship, but it means just as much in everyday life. His greatness lay in his ability to overcome all obstacles and become a three-time World Cup champion, revered around the globe.

This blog is my digital porch, a place for unpolished commentary on book reviews, daily gripes, and the random thoughts of a guy who finally has the time to pay attention. I’m an observant realist with a deep appreciation for history, a good quote, and the perspective that only comes after the career ends. I write to stay sharp, to stay honest, and to keep the conversation going. I love my Patriots and Bruins, a life long fan in bad times and good. They have been quite good for a long time now! I love spending time with my wife the best times are just doing nothing; watching tv, talking or just sitting at the beach together for a few hours. Our spot is pier 60 in Clearwater. I love the time I have with my kids when I can, they are all pretty busy. Seinfeld is about the best comedy ever. You will see me frequently comment on the show and why my blog is about nothing.

  1. I’ve always loved football, it’s quite fun when you’re interested in it. I don’t watch all the games etc but I do watch the World Cup and used to play football in high school. Really enjoyed the quote you picked, I think it’s true. When we struggle to achieve something, it makes us appreciate it more.

    1. Hey thanks for the reply. Yes it is a fun game to watch and I am look forward to the world cup from Brazil. Anytime we have to put work into something the result feels so much better for an achievement.
