This happens to most people, and I’m no different. This would be my layoff from Fidelity Investments. I wrote about this in my series Resume to Retirement. I have included the link to that post. This is never easy, and being 43 when it happened in 2006 made it worse, just because of my age. You start to have those age-related doubts: Will you find another job? To compound that issue, I did not understand why. I was a good employee, recently promoted, and the company was doing great. Also, I loved working there. Things turned out better in the long run; I found a better job that lasted 17 years until retirement.
