Daily Prompt: A Moment I Realized I Was Stronger

Reading Time: 2 minutes
Daily writing prompt
What’s a moment that made you realize you were stronger than you thought?

This happens to most people, and I’m no different. This would be my layoff from Fidelity Investments. I wrote about this in my series Resume to Retirement. I have included the link to that post. This is never easy, and being 43 when it happened in 2006 made it worse, just because of my age. You start to have those age-related doubts: Will you find another job? To compound that issue, I did not understand why. I was a good employee, recently promoted, and the company was doing great. Also, I loved working there. Things turned out better in the long run; I found a better job that lasted 17 years until retirement. Take a look at the post; it is part 11 of a 16-part series, and it still has some pieces I’m working on. Part 12 should be out this week.

  1. That must have been such a shock to be suddenly let go like that.

    1. Yea on multiple levels. Being in my 40’s was stressful, also no real reason other than a re-org. I know it happens to everybody but usually it is a bad economy or the company is not doing well or performance. None of those played into it. It was just a reorg and that was the reason. In the end it worked out much better. Thanks for the reply.

      1. I’m glad it worked out for the best, sometimes those shocking moments end up making our lives better.

      2. Much appreciated and yes they do.
