What Is the Best Purchase You Have Ever Made?
I actually think the better question would be, What was the worst purchase you ever made?
Maybe it was all those Disney VHS tapes I bought when my kids were young. I left them unopened because everyone said they’d become valuable collector’s items someday. We all know how that worked out.
That also reminds me of another Daily Prompt from about a week ago: “Which outdated technology do you miss the most, and why?” Sometimes these prompts seem to connect with each other.
But back to today’s question.
Isn’t the best purchase usually the one you’re making at that moment? Maybe not the McDonald’s Double Quarter Pounder, although that can be a pretty good purchase too. I’m talking about buying something you’ve wanted for a long time, something that lasts, something you’re proud to own, or something that improves your life.
Maybe it’s your first home.
Maybe it’s your first brand-new car.
For me, the Harley might rank ahead of the house. Owning one had been a dream since I was a kid, long before I ever thought about buying a home. It wasn’t just a motorcycle. It represented years of dreaming, saving, and finally being able to say, “I did it.”
Then again, maybe it isn’t something expensive at all.
It could be the family dog that gave you years of companionship. It could be the first bicycle you bought for your child or the one gift that made Christmas unforgettable.
The more I think about it, the less I believe there’s a single “best purchase.”
I think the best purchase is the one that brought the greatest satisfaction, fulfilled a real need, or represented something you worked hard to earn.
Sometimes the value isn’t measured by the price tag.
Sometimes it’s measured by the memories.
