What Is the Future of AI? Jobs, Ethics and Automation

Reading Time: 2 minutes

AI is here to stay. The bigger question is how it will change our jobs, our businesses, and the way we live.

With 100% certainty, AI will continue to develop and become an increasing presence in our lives. It is the next progression of automation that has been happening since we entered the Industrial Age.

There is a constant need to do more, do it better, and do it faster. This applies to making life easier for everyone, but also to making businesses more efficient and profitable.

The bigger issue, in my opinion, is that this technology will have a tremendous impact across all levels of employment, from the simple robotic arm putting screws into a car body to middle management. It will be a big change.

The main thing to consider is whether the people writing our laws understand the impact of this technology well enough to put logical, ethical guidelines around its use. There will always be bad actors, and unfortunately, that is human nature.

Even today, we are seeing concerns about how far AI should be allowed to go. Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan Chase, recently said the bank would not allow just any outside AI agent to access its systems because of the risks to customers and the bank. That is a reasonable concern, and one example of why safeguards will matter as this technology advances.

I used AI to find the story for the quote and link.

During JPMorgan Chase’s Q3 earnings call on October 13, 2026 (reported across financial publications such as CNBC, Banking Dive, Quartz, and PYMNTS), CEO Jamie Dimon addressed the security risks of third-party, consumer-facing AI agents (such as Meta’s Muse assistant) attempting to interact directly with customer bank accounts.

Dimon confirmed that JPMorgan Chase is actively blocking outside, unvetted AI agents from accessing retail customer accounts, citing security concerns over unauthorized credential access, data misuse, and security risks.

AI is here to stay. The question is how we manage it, how we protect people, and how we adapt to the changes it will bring.

What do you think is the future of AI?

  1. Agree. It’s here to stay. I keep thinking of all of the technology just in our lifetime. Tools that can be used for good.

I just worry about the critical thought process. I am always wondering how this starts from the bottom up with teaching and curriculum. Do we continue you teach and use AI as a tool (as we did when computers and technology burst into the scene) or will it all be designed around AI to think for you. I know this is a basic answer but it’s my simple human response.

    1. That is the big question. It is how to use it and not just say Do everything for me. I was talking with some folks where I retired from. They have to justify the project and need it financially, not just use it when a human is a better fit. It has to add value, and you have to understand that value and how it’s used.

      1. That’s the crux right there. Understand how it’s used!!

A very interesting and practical approach to this question. As you saw I also answered the question but I took it farther into the future beyond AI automating things to where AI potentially could emulate the entire human mind (and beyond) – superintelligence. However, before we get there, AI will automate a lot of things we humans now do (and have in the past). I had not considered the security risks you bring up, what Jamie Damon brought up. That is a bit scary.

    1. Yes, yours was very good. I think what gets interesting is the automation and the range of jobs it affects. It is already eliminating coding jobs, so it can move into white-collar jobs, which is much different from past automation changes. The bank thing with accounts could be very dangerous. I don’t know if people remember but the stock market does trades on trends. It set off black Monday 10/19/1987 and these systems are way smarter.

BTW your picture is very impressive. I know it was created with the help of AI but the end result is very impressive.

    1. Yeah, I think that was Gemini. I loved that one with the brain. Thanks
