If you could un-invent something, what would it be?

DailyPrompt:If you could un-invent something, what would it be?

Here’s a polished, funny, satirical, meaningful version that keeps your voice but makes the whole thing flow smoothly and land with a clear message:

Un‑inventing something might sound a little dramatic, but stay with me. If I could un‑invent anything, I’d un‑invent social media as it exists today. Yes, I realize the irony—I’m using social media to complain about social media. That’s the digital equivalent of standing in a bakery yelling about carbs.

The whole environment feels like the Wild West, except instead of cowboys, we have bots, trolls, and people who think typing in all caps counts as “research.” I’m not even sure this chaos was intentional, but here we are.

Let’s start with the bots. These things can post anything, anytime, anywhere. They’re like digital pigeons—loud, messy, and impossible to reason with. They create trust issues, honesty issues, and more arguments than a family reunion with an open bar.

Additionally, people use social media for genuine information. Historical information. Scientific information. The other day, I saw someone comment, “There goes another democrat communist,” and my brain nearly short‑circuited. I ended up writing a whole mini‑lecture explaining the difference between Democrats, Republicans, communism, and capitalism. I should post it. Get a good scrap going. Yes, social media.

And don’t get me started on the “I have 1,000 friends!” crowd. No, you don’t. If you’re lucky, you have two real friends and one person who tolerates you because you share a Netflix password.

Now, to be fair, the concept of social media could be great—with a little governance, a little structure, maybe a digital adult in the room. It does have real value. Information travels fast, people stay connected, and you can share photos of your lunch with strangers who didn’t ask.

But the flip side is weird: we’re more connected than ever, yet somehow further apart. People get this strange psychological bravery through anonymity—keyboard courage, if you will. And yes, I’m guilty of texting instead of calling, and I can’t remember the last time I wrote something with an actual pen.

So to wrap this up: social media is a great tool… in theory. And sure, there are probably things more deserving of being un‑invented, but this one hits me every single day, so it gets the spotlight. A few tweaks here and there and it could be amazing.

I mean, for the love of humanity—we can put a pig’s heart in a human, but we still can’t detect a bot posting weird, over‑the‑top praise for some random public figure. No sane person would write half of that stuff. No names here of course. I don’t want to end up in a Turkish prison.

I would uninvent the drive-up window. I think they were originally invented as a convenience for the physically disabled. Maybe it’s ok for pharmacies because it’s best not the go in sick and spreading germs….. It’s my personal pet peeve! People have become too goddang fat and lazy to even go fetch their own meal for cryin’ out loud. Oh, don’t get me started….

    1. I hate the drive up window and the self checkout at a store.
