I can’t say enough, and I’m sure the sentiment is the same for all of us. I hated this time, and I can’t believe how long it lasted. For some background, I remember being out to dinner just as this was getting some news cycles and wondering what all the fuss was about. That Monday, my boss said, “Kevin, you go home and work for two weeks. It will be on a rotation basis so we can test contingency plans.” At the end of week one, she said, ” Don’t come back till further notice. Everybody will be working from home.” There we were for the next 18 months, working from home. For a while, it was great, but toward the end, it got old, and I was looking forward to seeing the people I worked with for years. The routine of getting up, grabbing coffee, sitting at your desk, logging off, and sitting in the next room to watch TV was routine.
We, like most, were stuck at home and saw and did nothing for a long time. However, I never got COVID, which was great. Oddly, I did get covid last August, just after arriving in Brazil, and that brings me to the actual topic. Since then, I have been very much aware of people coughing, sneezing, and blowing their noses in small areas. This is something I never gave much thought to, but now every time I hear it, I look over a bit shell-shocked. It definitely made me very aware of my surroundings when it comes to germ transmission. I am also sure where I got it; we were at a small restaurant a few days earlier, and the person right next to me was hacking up a lung.
