How Do I Use Social Media

Reading Time: 2 minutes
Daily writing prompt
How do you use social media?

I find all social media a silly tool and, at the same time, part of everyday life. From a preclinical standpoint, nothing has ever claimed to bring more people closer while making them feel further away at the same time. What a silly concept equating worth to likes or having 500 friends. I don’t even know 500 people.

I also realize it is a necessary evil, but we lose perspective on it. This blog is about 99% of my social media usage because I can put into words what comes to mind, share it, and have a conversation, not to mention it is a good place to learn from others, share ideas, and see so much creativity. This is really the only social media I like that has value for me for the reasons I mentioned.

Other than this, I use Instagram mainly to watch funny animal videos. I don’t really post anything other than maybe a beach scene or a restaurant I went to, and give the establishment a plug for their business.

About Kevin, I spent 40 years in FinTech before retiring to

Rio de Janeiro to trade software releases for a front-row seat

to the beautiful absurdity of life in Brazil. This blog is my digital

porch, a place for unpolished commentary on book reviews,

daily gripes, and the random thoughts of a guy who finally has

the time to pay attention. I’m an observant realist with a deep

appreciation for history, a good quote, and the perspective that

only comes after the career ends. I write to stay sharp, to stay

honest, and to keep the conversation going.

  1. Obviously I love the”Blogfeld” animation! Fabulous.

I’m still connected more to Instagram than Facebook but more for gym tags for workouts etc. Facebook is more my cousins and family since we are spread out around the world.

    1. The tools have some great uses for sure. The annoying part is they have been weaponized with algorithms used negatively. They can also find bots that produce content that incites issues.

Facebook is great to keep up with people at a distance. Instagram and TikTok can be fun for videos. But it is the nonsense that aggravates me that can easily be fixed.

      1. Agreed!

  2. I use Facebook and Instagram. I quit Twitter/X. I am not sure if LinkedIn and WhatsApp count as social media but I use them too. I use Facebook primarily because I like to review beers and I am a member of and administer or moderate a dozen beer groups. My family and friends are spread all around the world, mostly in Sweden and in the US, especially here in Texas. I use Facebook to keep in contact with them. I post my blog posts on Facebook and Instagram. Instgram is secondary for me, but I use it almost daily. There is an incredible amount of crap on Facebook and Instagram but I try to ignore it. A lot of it are bots and trolls.

    1. I have not looked at facebook in 12 years. Instagram every once in a while to watch funny videos or share with a co worker for a laugh. Twitter I tried years ago and it was just pointless banter. I go to linkedin rarely, mainly to see what co-workers are up to. and whatsapp all the time but I don’t see that as social media and more a texting tool. The way you use facebook is the original intent and it is great for that.
