Who is the fictional character you relate to the most?
This is pretty close to the question from July 24th: “If you could have dinner with any fictional character, who would it be?”
To want to have dinner with a fictional character, I would suspect that, in most cases, you relate to them or simply find them interesting.
If I had to pick the character I relate to the most, that’s a slightly different twist—and I’m not sure I can narrow it down to just one.
Certainly Kramer from Seinfeld comes to mind. I have a tendency to blurt things out without much of a filter, much like Kramer. Think of the classic line:
“You’re as pretty as any of them. You just need a nose job.”
Maybe it’s Chandler from Friends because of his dry, quick, sarcastic wit.
Monica: “The camera adds ten pounds!”
Chandler: “Ah, so how many cameras were actually on you?”
My wife would probably say I’m more like the Tasmanian Devil from Looney Tunes because I try to do everything too fast and usually end up knocking something over or dropping it.
The more I think about it, the harder the question becomes. I don’t think most of us are just one character. We borrow little pieces from dozens of them. A bit of Kramer, a little Chandler, maybe even a dash of the Tasmanian Devil.
Then again, maybe I’ve been looking at it backward.
Aren’t fictional characters more like us than we are like them?
After all, isn’t that what good storytelling is? Art imitating reality.
