The Best Online Interaction Ever
Twelve years ago, I was getting ready to move to Florida. I didn’t know anybody there, so I figured I would do what any perfectly normal person would do—I went online looking for people who might want to meet.
Somewhere in that process, I met my future wife.
As it turned out, she was also moving to Florida and was looking to meet people. So there we were, two people getting ready to move to the same place, neither of us knowing that we were about to meet someone who would completely change our lives.
I guess some people might call that fate.
From that first online encounter, we started talking every day. At first, it was simply conversations online, getting to know each other and discovering that we actually enjoyed talking to one another.
Eventually, we met in person.
And apparently, we liked each other there too.
We’ve been together ever since.
About 14 or 15 months after that first meeting, we got married. We spent the next ten years building our life together in Florida. Then, when I retired, we decided it was time for another adventure and relocated to Brazil.
Twelve years later, I sometimes think about how incredibly random that first online meeting seemed at the time.
I was simply looking for someone to meet because I was moving to a new state.
She was doing essentially the same thing.
And yet, somehow, we found each other.
But that one conversation turned out to be the best online interaction I’ve ever had.
It started with two strangers looking for someone to meet.
It ended with a marriage, ten years in Florida, a retirement adventure in Brazil, and a whole lot of memories along the way.
Not bad for clicking on the right person.
