The Greatest Generation

If you could go back and witness any historical event, which one would you pick?

Picking one specific event is hard for me, but I can easily pick a period I would have liked to experience: the Greatest Generation.

Born primarily in the late teens and 1920s, they lived through the end of World War I, the Great Depression, all of World War II, and then one of the greatest periods of economic growth and middle-class expansion in American history.

To me, they were one of the most resilient generations we have ever produced. They faced enormous challenges, endured hardships that are difficult for many of us to imagine today, and yet they kept moving forward.

They didn’t have all the conveniences we take for granted. They didn’t have smartphones, the internet, or Google to tell them how to fix everything.

They had each other.

They faced the challenges in front of them, didn’t waver, and ultimately left the world a better place than they found it.

If I could go back, that’s the generation I’d want to see—not just one historical event, but a people who showed us what resilience really looked like.
