Daily Writing Prompt 26-Aug: If I Could Vacation in TV Shows: Walking Dead, Seinfeld & Friends

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Which fictional world would be the most fun to vacation in?

You are probably thinking Seinfeld, and honestly, I would love to spend a week in that world. The complete lack of urgency, the sarcasm, the ridiculous situations, and somehow finding something to laugh about in all of it. That sounds pretty good to me.

But if we’re talking about pure excitement, I think I would have to spend a week in The Walking Dead. And, of course, I don’t mean as one of the dead people. I want to be one of the survivors. How do you top no bills, no schedule, no boss, no real structure, and the freedom to make up your own society? You get to wander around stabbing walkers in the head and blowing things up. What’s not to like?

Of course, there is one small problem: this is a vacation, and even after forty years of working, I only get four weeks a year. So I can’t spend the entire vacation running around Georgia killing zombies. Besides, I probably wouldn’t survive that long anyway.

So I would divide my vacation between a few different fictional worlds.

Week one would be The Walking Dead. I’d get my fill of excitement, survival, questionable decisions, and probably a little zombie head-stabbing.

Week two would be Seinfeld. I’d go from fighting for my life to worrying about absolutely nothing important. No zombies. No survival strategy. Just four people turning the most insignificant event imaginable into a major crisis. And somehow, that sounds relaxing.

Week three would be Friends, which is pretty much the polar opposite of Seinfeld. These people actually care about each other. They hang out, they talk, they get into ridiculous situations, and somehow they always end up back together. Plus, they spend half their lives sitting around a coffee shop. I’m actually writing this from a coffee shop in Brazil—GoCoffee—so I already feel like I’m halfway there.

Week four?

I’m staying home.

After a week with zombies, a week with Seinfeld, and a week hanging out with the Friends gang, I think I’d need a vacation from my vacation.

Somewhere quiet. No zombies. No ridiculous arguments. No sitcom drama.

Just me, a coffee, and absolutely nothing to do.

  1. I can get behind all but the walking dead. I would be the first one gone. Lol

  2. I have to admit that I think The Walking Dead is an interesting choice, but I am not sure. However, yes to Seinfeld, Friends, and staying at home, except I am already doing that.

  3. TV taste is a funny thing – I agree with some but not all of your choices! Have a safe week-end, Linda 🙂

    1. ha yes it is and thanks for the reply. Actually I tried walking dead three times before I went start to end.
