What’s the Kindest Thing Someone Has Ever Done for You?
It would be impossible for me to pick a single event among all the kind things people have done for me.
My parents did kind things for me all the time. They provided opportunities to do things they knew I wanted to try and always found a way to make them happen. My grandparents always found time for me and took care of me when I was young.
My wife does kind things for me all the time as well. She thinks of me first when she knows there is something I might like or want to do. Sometimes it is as simple as picking up my favorite coffee or lunch when she is out, without even being asked. She took me to Brazil for the first time, and the whole family did everything they could to make sure I had a great time.
I’ve also had co-workers stay late to help solve a problem when they could have simply gone home. Those moments meant something, too.
These are all kind things from the many people who cross our lives, and each is the kindest in its own way. I wouldn’t want to narrow it down to a single “kindest” act because that would seem unfair to all the other acts of kindness I’ve experienced.
Maybe that’s the point. Kindness doesn’t always come in one big, unforgettable gesture. Sometimes it is a cup of your favorite coffee, someone giving you their time, or simply someone making an effort to make your life a little easier.
Those small things can stay with you for a very long time.
