Daily Writing Prompt 16-Sep: What’s the longest book you’ve ever read?

Reading Time: < 1 minute

What’s the longest book you’ve ever read?

Well, that has to be that miserable pile of literary drudgery by Ayn Rand “Atlas Shrugged” that I’ve mentioned at least three times already. At this point, I’m beginning to suspect these prompts aren’t actually asking questions. They’re just testing my patience and hoping I’ll rant about this book again.

Well, congratulations. It worked.

It was so bad I would rather remove my testicles with a butter knife than read it again. And considering I have already established that I’m far too cheap to buy a book and not finish it, that should tell you something about the depth of my suffering.

I’ll leave you with my previous post and the simple, carefully considered conclusion I reached after crawling through that literary swamp:

It is the most miserable slog of rubbish I have ever read.

Honestly, I’d rather read See Dick and Jane Chase Spot.

At least Spot has the decency to keep moving.

  1. Oh how I empathise with you! I never finished The Fountainhead… It was so flat.. even the flatline of an ECG would be jealous of it! I wrote about it the day the prompt was about books we never finished. And I am telling you I tried… Many times over many years and then simply quit. It will remain a book I will never go back to. So I congratulate you for finishing an Ayn Rand book. I can’t seem to wrap my head around the hows or the whys… But you are here. Still alive. That says something about your constitution! 🤣🤣🤣

I really wonder why Ayn was so famous and her books so celebrated!! It’s a drudgery that is beyond comparison to finish her books! I would rather slog in a Siberian trench!!

    1. Thank You! I think I picked this up because of old high school memories from the last time I heard of Ayn Rand, so I said, let’s give it a go. Very bad choice. I think I read Fountainhead in sophomore year. So maybe 50 years ago, and I don’t remember it. I think she has some beatnik 60’s following that loves this drivel. It was horrible. I kept looking at the page number, calculating how much more. My cheap disposition won’t let me buy a book and not read it.

  2. Me too! I never leave a book midway… Fountainhead was the one I just had to. Rather it made me quit it midway!!😭 I couldn’t figure a way out of it!!

  3. I had a boyfriend ages ago that liked Rand, so I tried to read it. Didn’t get 10 pages in and thought it horrid. The guy didn’t last that long either.

    1. yep it was terrible. I can’t believe it was published. I did look up reviews from the time and not very well received.

      1. I can totally see why
