My Great American Travel Adventure – Day 6: A Relaxing Day

My Great American Travel Adventure – Day 6: A Relaxing Day

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Today was a real down day, and I really needed it.

I woke up around 7:00, but I think the air mattress might have a slight leak. I woke up in a valley.

It may not sound like an air mattress would be comfortable, but it actually is. I have also noticed that my daughter keeps the house absolutely freezing, which means the air inside the mattress is practically Arctic.

However, there may be a benefit to this. I swear the very cold air seems to reduce my arthritis inflammation because I have been almost pain-free.

As far as the day goes, my daughter worked, so I sat outside to thaw. It was actually a mild Florida day, and since the deck is covered, I had a nice place to sit.

I enjoyed my coffee and finished Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities. I will be doing a full review of it, but I previously wrote about older books that you can read for free at Project Gutenberg.

The books are very old, and in this case, A Tale of Two Cities was published about 175 years ago. I wasn’t sure these old books were really for me.

But I wanted to give it an honest try. I figured I would read at least 50 pages before making up my mind.

I’m glad I did.

It was actually quite good, and I found myself enjoying it much more than I expected. I’ll go into more detail in the full review.

I did manage to corrupt my daughter’s eating habits as well. As a dietitian, she frowns on some of my food choices, and Frosted Flakes is one of my favorites.

You can’t go wrong with Tony. They’re Gr-r-reat!

Well, apparently they are. She ate most of the box.

So that was pretty much my day. Relaxing, reading, drinking coffee, and doing a little food corrupting.

Have you ever surprised yourself by enjoying a book you thought you wouldn’t like? I’d love to hear about it in the comments.

Tomorrow, I think I am going to venture into cleaning her car.

That looks to be a significant challenge.

  1. Yes, they are great!!!! I was surprised I actually enjoyed Pride and Prejudice once I got over a few humps. We shall see how Mansfield Park goes. Still trying to figure out why people love jane austen so much, lol.

    1. I just completed A Tale of Two Cities. I had to give it time. It was pretty good. I have the review coming. I think I will try Moby-Dick and maybe another Dickens novel. I did not know he wrote a series of pieces, not books; parts of the story would come out weekly or monthly.

      1. Yeah, serials were big back in the day for newspapers. That is why I do multiple parts of my short stories on Fridays. I like the serial feel of them. Keeps people coming back, hopefully.

      2. good idea.

  2. Frosted Flakes for the win!
