Two Life-Changing Moves I Never Thought I’d Make

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Sometimes the biggest experiences in life are the ones you never imagined yourself doing.

I think it was walk away from the area I spent my life and move to Florida. I kept the same job but I never expected to relocate area. for 51 years I lived in New Hampshire and to pack up everything, make a four car/truck caravan to a new state, get a new place and furnish it was well outside my comfort zone.

The retirement came 10 years later and I packed up and relocated to Brazil. I did not know the language, still not great. I had never lived in a big city never mind a foreign country and two of my grown kids stayed behind, they had lives in the states. It was the first time we had been separated like this.

If you would have asked me when I was younger I would never predict the first move, nobody in my family ever did that and if I was told about the second I would say you were nuts. These are two things I never thought would happen in my life but they did and they were great experiences.

What’s something you’ve done in your life that you never thought you could?

  1. Brazil is amazing, I hope you’re enjoying it. It’s nice that the moves you never thought of making before turned out amazing and good for you.

Moving to a different state or a different country is indeed a big change. I lived my first 18-19 years in a small town in northern Sweden far from any city. Then I moved south to bigger cities, but still in Sweden, and then to Ohio, Detroit, New Mexico, and then back to Sweden, and then to Wisconsin and finally Texas where I’ve lived for 26 years, the longest of any place. I moved around because of University or work. People move around a lot more now a day. My kids live in Maryland, New Mexico, and Texas.
