Observation

One of the things I’ve noticed about blogging is that it quietly brings together people who would likely never meet otherwise.

When I publish a post, I know people may read it. What I often forget is that those readers could be sitting anywhere in the world. Some may be a few miles away. Others may be thousands of miles away. Yet for a few moments, we’re all gathered in the same place, sharing thoughts, stories, opinions, and experiences.

That’s something I don’t think about nearly enough.

Story

When I first started blogging, I assumed I was simply creating a place to share my thoughts.

Over time, however, I began noticing comments, subscriptions, and interactions from people in different cities, states, and countries. Some had backgrounds completely different from mine. Others had lived lives remarkably similar.

What struck me wasn’t our differences.

It was how often a simple post could create a conversation.

A book review might lead to a discussion with someone halfway around the world. A post about retirement might resonate with someone living a completely different lifestyle. A musing about daily life might spark a memory from someone I’ve never met.

The longer I blog, the more fascinating I find this.

Reflection

Every person has a story.

Some people spend their entire lives in one place. Others move across countries, continents, and cultures. Some leave home and never return. Others leave only to discover that home was exactly where they wanted to be all along. My path took me from Massachusetts (Where I was born) to New Hampshire at age 7 to Florida at 51, where I completed 40+ years of work in technology and retired in Brazil at 62

What interests me isn’t necessarily where people live.

It’s how they got there.

The choices they made.

The opportunities they pursued.

The places they loved.

The places they left behind.

The places that shaped who they became.

We often know very little about the people behind the comments, likes, and subscriptions.

Yet each person has a unique journey.

So I’d like to turn this post into a community experiment.

• What was your favorite place you’ve lived? Massachusetts, I don’t remember, but I liked them all, and they are all very different. I do love living the City life of Rio. I was always a suburb person, so I love this way of life now.
• Why was it your favorite? The city, the beach, local to everything I can walk to, and the people. The food and culture is great.
• What Makes it Home? It feels good
• What keeps you there? The people and the environments made retirement possible.
