How do you write what people actually want to read?

Well, I try to do a few things and have a few pillars I stay true to.

The Daily Prompt is a daily standard, but for my creative side, I try to do something light, funny, and sarcastic with my weekly gripe or satire.

I also like to do an informative historical piece, maybe something about the founding of the U.S. or a historical figure who doesn’t get much publicity. I might even loop in a good book review along the way.

Since I live in Brazil as an expat, I try to find something interesting about Brazil, whether it is food, a destination, or some aspect of the way of life, and contrast it with the U.S.

I also like to do a Coffee with Kevin that usually has some life memory, lesson, or career perspective from a retired guy.

I also enjoy reading and responding to other bloggers. There is a lot of good writing out there, and I think being part of the blogging community is just as important as publishing your own work.

I also try to keep my pieces relatively short. Most are designed to be a one- to five-minute read at most. There is plenty of long-form content out there, but sometimes people just want something they can sit down and enjoy without making an afternoon of it.

Finally, at the end of the week, I like to post some of the most popular posts I can find. I use a Python script that looks at tags I think are popular or getting decent traffic, then calls out other bloggers in each category whose posts received the most likes that week.

So, I don’t really have a formula for writing what people want to read. I just try to give them a little bit of everything, keep it easy to consume, interact with other bloggers, and hope something catches their interest.
