What are five simple exercises to do at home?
Well, at 63 and counting, getting out of bed without saying “ouch” is exercise number one.
Then there is the squat and hold, better known as sitting down.
This is an advanced exercise because you have to lower yourself slowly, make sure the chair is actually behind you, and then hold the position until you decide getting back up isn’t worth it.
Next is the pão de queijo curl.
I try to do plenty of these. It really builds the biceps, although I’m not sure it does much for the abs. In fact, the more I do, the more I seem to develop a different kind of gut.
Then we have the side leg lift.
This is performed while lying on your side, propped up on one elbow while watching television. The leg lift comes into play when you need to adjust the man parts.
Proper form is important here. You don’t want to pull anything.
Finally, there is the sit-up.
This one starts from the lying position and ends in a sitting position. That’s it. No need to overdo it.
Actually, this is part of a more advanced circuit training program. Once you complete the sit-up, you progress to the standing position and walk to the snack cabinet.
I recommend doing several repetitions.
The return trip to the couch is particularly good for cardiovascular health.
And there you have it: a complete, well-rounded home gym routine for the 63-and-counting crowd.
No expensive equipment.
No personal trainer.
No complicated workout app.
Just gravity, a television, some pão de queijo, and the determination to get to the snack cabinet before someone else eats everything.
