“Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not.”
I think this speaks to the lives of many people—myself included, at least to some extent. I wouldn’t say I ever “spoiled” anything, but I can see how it can go to extremes for some. Looking back now, especially in retirement, it all comes down to perspective.
Stop chasing things.
Find happiness where you are.
Be grateful for what you already have.
Before long, the ride is over, and you’re left wondering whether all that chasing ever made life any better. At some point, you have to stop wanting more and start appreciating the moment you’re in.
It get’s us all. I spent a working life chasing things and then about 12 years ago I realized it was wasted time money and effort. I scaled it way back and have a much better piece of mind. My last 10 years of work my boss would say “lets go have your yearly review.” My response was “do I still have a job and get paid next year.” he said “yes” I said “review over. ” I never read one of them
Absolutely love that quote, one of my favourites and so much truth to it too. Being able to be satisfied with what we have is something that can truly bring us so much happiness in life. Many of us are miserable because we always want more.
